Il Bunsen è dotato di termovalvola di sicurezza che impedisce la fuoriuscita del gas quando la fiamma è spenta.

Per accendere il bunsen bisogna premere la termo-valvola e tenerla premuta per circa 15 secondi dopo l'accensione.

La fiamma è regolabile ruotando sia la manopola che regola il flusso del gas sia la ghiera metallica sulla canna che regola il flusso dell'aria.
